Humboldt Expedition builds on open data, photos, fonts, and software. Here we list the sources and their licenses — with thanks to everyone who makes them freely available.

Species photos

Reference photos come from iNaturalist, Wikimedia Commons, and GBIF. We use only photos under licenses that allow commercial use and derivative works (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA, public domain). Author and license of each photo are shown in the app on the species page.

Many reference photos are under CC BY-SA. A Humboldt plate derived from a CC BY-SA photo is itself a derivative work and is therefore also under CC BY-SA (attribution and share alike) — such plates are copyleft and may be reused by others under the same conditions.

Conservation status

Species conservation status comes from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (CC BY 4.0).
